Don't tell the serious anglers who sit on the Blue Ribbon Fisheries Council with me, but this Bert and Ernie sketch may as well be my fishing strategy given my success rate.
That Sesame Street clip made me laugh this week, but being the overly-serious conservationist I am, it also made me think about how that old bit has become strangely reality-based in recent years. I'm thinking of course of the Asian carp invasion which threatens the Great Lakes.
While videos of Asian Carp situation are almost as entertaining as the Bert and Ernie sketch, the Carp are no laughing matter for the ecosystem or economy. And while plans to stop the invasion range from Asian Carp Tacos to sound bubbles and beyond.
Our Partner groups are working to protect the Great Lakes from this invasion. To learn more, visit the websites of groups like Freshwater Future, Prairie Rivers Network, and Friends of the Chicago River.
