The Water Footprint Assessment Manual: Setting the Global Standard

Author: Travis Leipzig

This February, The Water Footprint Network released an updated version of their original 2009 publication, The Water Footprint Assessment Manual: Setting the Global Standard. This report provides a framework that can be used at the global level to measure the water footprint of green, blue and grey water use at the individual process, product or consumption levels as well as at business and national levels.

The report includes a description of water footprint accounting, detailed examples of how these footprints can be calculated, describes how to assess the sustainability of specific water footprints, and offers a library of measures that can be used to reduce a water footprint.
