Last September, Bevan (who we all love and miss dearly as he is peace corps-ing away down in Equador) blogged about a water-energy nexus technology competition being put on by Imagine H2O - a national non profit dedicated to empowering and inspiring people to solve water problems. Finally, on March 17 after 6 months of deliberation, Imagine H20 has announced their winner of $100K and two runners up.

WINNER
Coming away with first place is a company based out of Seattle, Washington (yeah Pacific North West, represent!), HydroVolts who have developed portable floating turbines that generate renewable energy and clean water from the untapped global resource of hydrokinetic energy in canals.

RUNNERS UP
FogBusters, headquartered in Oakland, California, developed a new, better and cleaner way to treat biofuel, petroleum, and food processing wastewater - capturing the fats, oils and grease to produce biodiesel.

BlackGold Biofuels, a Pennsylvania based company, designed a technology that recovers energy from wastewater streams, creating lucrative and renewable energy assets out of what once was pollution liability.

Congratulations to these three companies and for their excellent contributions toward the progression of the water-energy nexus - not to mention their taking home of a combined $100K in cash, business and legal support. Congratulations also to all the other finalists! You are all out there making a difference and doing a great job! Keep up the amazing work you do!
