Robert Glennon, a renowned law professor at the University of Arizona and author of the new book Unquenchable: America's Water Crisis and What to do About It, was recently on The Daily Show with John Stewart. In addition to raising awareness of the looming national water crisis, Glennon introduced the audience to some key aspects of the water-energy nexus and the importance of integrating water and energy policies.
The water-energy nexus received some brief recognition when Glennon tells John Stewart about the massive water demands associated with alternative sources of energy, including biofuels and concentrated solar thermal power. Glennon then goes on to describe the need for more integrated water and energy policies so that we can better identify the water impacts and inevitable tradeoffs associated with our energy choices.
The energy embedded in water is also briefly mentioned when Glennon explains why desalination should not be seen as silver bullet to our water woes. Check out the interview below.
