The Saving Water, Saving Energy blog provides the latest news, resources and analysis on water, energy, and climate change issues with an emphasis on the inextricable connections between water and energy, also know as the Water-Energy Nexus.
The SWSE blog is produced by Travis Leipzig, River Network's Rivers, Energy & Climate Program Coordinator.

Researchers at UC Berkeley will be introducing two new tools that use lifecycle assessments to analyze the sustainability of new water and wastewater projects.
The tools – the Water-Energy Sustainability Tool (WEST) and the Wastewater-Energy Sustainability Tool (WWEST) – were created by Dr. Jennifer Stokes and Prof. Arpad Horvath, two UC Berkeley researchers. Development of the models was funded by the California Energy Commission, and they are designed to “assist in quantifying the air (including greenhouse gases), water and land emissions associated with constructing, operating, and maintaining [water and wastewater] systems.”
For more information, download a flyer on the workshop (PDF).
A live, streaming webcast of the workshop will be available for all of us that can’t make it in person. To view the webcast, visit: mms://media.citris.berkeley.edu/water at 10am.
Note: I'm not positive, but I think you might need Windows Media player to view the webcast.
How we can access to the tool
Hi,
I am PhD student working on greywater recycling. I would like to use this tool in my project. Do you know how is it possible to access to this tool.
Thank you.
RE: How we can access to the tool
I believe the tool is still in a beta version and will be officially released to the public sometime in Fall 2010. In the meantime, trying contacting Dr. Stokes or Arpad Horvath at UC Berkeley for more information.
