Idaho Rivers United has invited River Network to come out to Boise, ID on Oct. 26, 2010 to talk about the water-energy-climate connection and how individuals and communities can understand the energy intensity of their water supplies and begin saving energy by saving water.

River Network released the Water-Energy Toolkit: Understanding the Carbon Footprint of Your Water Use last July in order to showcase a variety of tools or calculators that are available to help people understand the energy embedded in their water use and the potential to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through water-oriented strategies. This workshop will be the first one River Network has held on the toolkit. It will be free and open to the public.

Here is a press release of the event:

Boise River Community Lecture

Understanding the Carbon Footprint of Your Water Use

Idaho Rivers United continues its series of free community programs on the Boise River with a program on reducing your carbon footprint by using less water. The program is on Tuesday, October 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Garden City Library, 6015 Glenwood St.

There is mounting evidence of the significant impact that climate change is having on the Boise River. Warmer water temperatures and lower summer flows stress native fish and plants. Endangered bull trout are losing suitable habitat because they rely on very cold water temperatures.

Bevan Griffiths-Sattenspiel, Water and Energy Program Coordinator for River Network, will talk about the water/energy nexus and introduce River Network’s new Water-Energy Toolkit. The Toolkit contains eleven tools that individuals and communities can easily use to learn about the energy intensity of their water. Information is also provided to help determine which types of techniques you should employ to start saving water and energy.

The program is free and open to the public.

Presented by Idaho Rivers United and the Garden City Library.
