Circle of Blue has developed a sleek new “infographic” about the connections between water and energy. Completely void of any numbers, the somewhat interactive slideshow provides a basic, eye-popping overview of water and energy issues.
Circle of Blue’s Infographic: Water and Energy is yet another great educational piece in their awesome ‘Choke Point U.S.’ series about the water-energy nexus with a focus on the looming conflict between water resources and energy production.. It is an ideal resource for introducing the basic concepts driving the discussion around water and energy issues. Here’re a few screen shots.
The first slide is just a simple, straightforward illustration of what is typically meant when referring to the water-energy nexus:
Here's another image from the Circle of Blue's Water and Energy Infographic showing how energy is used to provide water. It's interesting that they left out water heating and chose to only show how energy is embedded in other lifecycle stages of water. Afterall, end-use energy inputs represent the greatest share of energy embedded in water, with commercial and residential water heating alone requiring about twice as much energy as water supply and treatment in the U.S (for more information see Carbon Footprint of Water.
Here's one last shot from the infographic showing the various ways that water is used to produce energy:
