We love making great beer, but we also recognize that we have a great responsibility to our environment and our communities. That’s why we’re teaming up with River Network to provide more than $50,000 to local water organizations through the 3rd annual MillerCoors River Network Grant Competition.
Water is an essential ingredient in beer and water stewardship is a key sustainable development commitment for MillerCoors. We’re working diligently to save water in big and small ways, from fixing a small leak to utilizing innovative water savings technology. Just one example is our breweries’ switch to dry lube, which replaces water lubricant on our conveyor belts. We estimate this initiative alone will save around 80 million gallons of water a year.
So while we make every effort to conserve water inside our breweries, we’re excited to work together with our six finalists to help make an impact in communities across the country. Good water makes great beer and we’d like to raise a glass and say thanks!
Cheers!
Clean Water for Good Beer Committee
Today is the launch of this contest and our efforts to rally the West to vote for enhancing habitat in Johnson Creek. But, strangely enough, on my agenda I have a date listed for 5-7pm for the "Clean Water for Good Beer Committee" tonight at the East Burn, in Portland, Oregon. Folks from the five cities, two counties, and numerous state and federal agencies who manage parts of Johnson Creek are celebrating the retirement of Karl Lee, a hydrologist at USGS, who's dedicated over 20 years to improving our understanding of Johnson Creek (http://or.water.usgs.gov/johnsoncreek/index.html). It's a serendipitous start to a great opportunity to spread the word about the great work going on around the country to conserve and restore rivers! Thanks so much to Miller-Coors and The River Network for organizing~
