Grassroots groups in the Great Lakes area that are working on climate adaptation projects are eligible to apply for funding from Freshwater Future's Climate Grant Program. Funding recipients will be awarded anywhere between $500 and $5000 for their work. Freshwater Future's Climate Grant Program is specifically designed to help Great Lakes grassroots groups develop and implement climate adaptation projects at a local level that will reduce their communities vulnerability to climate impacts.
Climate Grant Opportunity:
In the Climate Funding Program, awards ranging from $500 to $5000 (USD) are provided to encourage local communities to actively engage in projects and promote decision making that takes climate change related impacts into account.
Projects should
1) Identify how they will make your community better prepared to handle the impacts of climate change.
and
2) Either communicate that information to the community, or work to incorporate climate change into local decision-making (permits, regulations, land use decisions, etc.).
Additionally, Webinars and Climate Symposia will be offered to help train past, present and potential grant recipients in the subject of climate change and how they can effectively incorporate climate into their water related projects. Please email Kara Scheerhorn at kara@freshwaterfuture.org to be put on a priority notification list for these opportunities.
Before submitting a Climate Grants application it is MANDATORY to contact a Freshwater Future staff member to talk through your proposal ideas.
Application Deadline: December 15, 2011
