Lesson 7: Nonpoint Source Pollution Control

Nonpoint source pollution is the leading remaining cause of water quality problems in our nation's rivers, lakes, and coastal waters. What is nonpoint source pollution? Also known as polluted runoff, nonpoint source pollution results from rain or snowmelt moving over the ground and carrying pollutants off the land -- pollutants such as nutrients from lawn fertilizer, bacteria from livestock waste, or oil from your driveway. In this lesson, you'll learn more about the Clean Water Act's 319 program to help control nonpoint source pollution.
