Landscaping for the Watershed: Planting to Benefit Our Pollinators, Wildlife, and Streams
On Tuesday evening, 7:30 PM, on April 14, come hear landscape architect, adjunct professor at Westchester Community College, and author Carolyn Summers speak about how our yards and gardens can be made not only attractive but also beneficial to the environment. A panel Q&A will follow. For those who wish to pursue the topics presented further, Bergen SWAN is planning two follow-up workshops later in the spring, which will provide hands-on planting instruction. Seating is limited, register right away!

The Downeast Salmon Federation’s 15th Annual Smelt Fry
Spring is right around the corner! The Downeast Salmon Federation’s 15th Annual Smelt Fry is only one month away! This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 1p.m. to 6p.m. throughout the town of Columbia Falls, Maine. There will be a Chinese Raffle and the smelt fry dinner ($5) will be continuously served from 1-6 at the Wreaths Across America building (the former Columbia Falls Elementary School). The student art displays, a fly tying demonstration, kids crafts, the art contest awards and the Passing of the Paddle will be hosted at Union Hall (directly across the street from the Post Office). Tours of the Wild Salmon Resource Center Hatchery will be available all afternoon, as well as the Heritage Fish Camp on the river. Moose stew and hot dogs will be served at these locations. This event keeps growing as does DSF, we hope you can join us for this annual community Fisheries Celebration and hope you will enjoy the expanded format!
