General Questions

Q: Apparently, I have an infrequently asked question. Who can I ask?
A: For questions regarding the River Rally not answered below, you can contact Deb Merchant at River Network's Portland, Oregon office.

Q: What is the River Rally?
A: The River Rally is River Network's premier annual event that brings together over 500 river
conservationists for 3 consecutive days of education, inspiration and celebration. The location of
the River Rally moves each year: in 2008, we were on the banks of Lake Erie; in 2009 we were in Baltimore; in 2010 we will be in the mountains surrounding Salt Lake City. Staff, board members, volunteers, agencies, tribal representatives, and individuals interested in watershed conservation should all consider attending the event.

Q: Where is River Rally 2010?
A: River Rally 2010 is being held May 21st - May 24th at Snowbird Resort, UT.

Q: What is the elevation?
A: 8,100'

Q: How can my office or my family reach me at Snowbird?
A: We'll get you this information as soon as we have the information to get to you. The best way to reach Snowbird is to call them at #800.232.9542.

Q: How should I dress for the conference?
A: Dress for the conference is casual - very much so. Come as you please and be comfortable.

Q: What kind of weather can I expect?
A: Snow is possible, but warm days and cool nights are likely. The Snowbird website homepage provides daily weather conditions

Q: Should I bring an instrument?
A: Yes. There are numerous planned and spontaneous opportunities to play music with fellow Rally-goers.

Q: Can I bring information to display?
A: Yes, River Network Partners are each allotted shared table space to display organizational information. However -- folks on average tend to bring too many materials; every year it is embarrassing the amount of paper we throw into the recycling bins. So, please, please plan accordingly. Though your materials are likely very beautiful and informative, not everyone will take them home. If there are materials left over Sunday night, pick them up before you leave and take them back home with you. Save some trees. Bring less stuff. And don't try to mitigate your guilt of bringing too much by having us toss it for you. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Travel

Q: Where is the nearest airport?
A: The nearest airport is Salt Lake City (SLC) - a mere 29 miles from the site of River Rally 2010. There are over 600 non-stop flights to Salt Lake each day from most major U.S. cities

Q: Do you offer transportation from the airport to the conference facility?
A: River Network will provide you the opportunity to secure shuttle transportation through Canyon Transportation when you register for River Rally The additional cost is $35 one-way or $60 round-trip.

Q: How do I get to Snowbird?
A: Safely, we hope. Click here for directions.

Q: Can I arrange carpooling?
A: Certainly, in fact, we encourage it. We've even set up an account with Pickup Pal - a free service for River Rally participants. Whether you are looking for someone to sing Bobby McGee with you as you travel the country roads - or just someone to help share the cost of gas, Pickup Pal will help you coordinate your traveling needs. Visit our own personalized Pickup Pal site to sign up and find a friend...or two.

Sponsor

Q: I want to support the River Rally and/or Exhibit
A: Excellent - thank you! Matt Burke will be happy to sign you up as a Sponsor, give you details on a wide-range of benefit packages and set you up to exhibit your products and services. Contact Matt at 503-542-8383 or email

Workshops

Q: Can I submit a proposal for a workshop?
A: No, not any more. The Call for Workshops closed on Oct. 22, 2009. If you have questions, contact Deb Merchant

Q: Do I have to go to the workshops for which I registered?
A: No. We do ask registrants to indicate their workshop preferences primarily as a way to roughly determine interest, and thus, appropriate room size.

Registration & Scholarships

Q: When will registration open?
A: River Rally 2010 registration is open now at River Rally Registration. If you register by February 19th we'll take 10% of your lodging and conference costs via the Early Mayfly Discount.

Q: What is the cost of attending River Rally?
A: Our rates vary depending on your status as a River Network Partner, although if you want to become a Partner you can do so via registration and save a lot of money on River Rally. We have both double and single occupancy rates, daily rates, a 10% discount during the first four business weeks of registration and partial scholarships to apply for. Needless to say our rates vary greatly depending upon your choices. Check back on January 25th for registration and all the details.

Q: How do I apply for a scholarship?
A: The scholarship process is embedded in the registration process. To apply for a scholarship, you must be a current staff person or board member of a River Network Partner and register for River Rally no later than March 19th. The average scholarship award is $250. Scholarship award decisions will be made late March/early April and notifications emailed shortly thereafter.

Lodging/Roommates

Q: How are roommates determined?
A: If you list a roommate and that roommate lists you, you will be placed together. If not, you'll be placed with another River Rally attendee of the same sex, and most likely leave with a new friend.

Q: If I register for River Rally and pay for River Rally Lodging/Workshops & Meals - do I need to
contact the hotel regarding my room reservation?

A: No. If you've registered and requested a room, we'll take care of the rest. All you need to do is pay your fees through River Network, arrange your travel and arrive at Snowbird. We'll have your room waiting for you.

Q: What can I do to prepare for the higher elevation (8,100 ft.) at Snowbird?
A: First, thank Snowbird for including humidifiers in every lodging room. Second, drink a lot of water for several weeks prior to coming to Snowbird and keep it up once you arrive. Water - the very thing we're all at River Rally to learn more about - is what will save you in the mountains at Snowbird.

Q: I snore - do I have to pay extra if I need a single room?
A: If you cannot - or are not willing to - share a room for any reason, you will be asked to pay for the extra expense.
