The 3rd Annual Great Slough Clean-Up!
Saturday, July 11th, 2009 S 9:00am - Noon.
Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council’s Eyes on the Slough volunteers for the 3nd Annual Great Slough Clean-Up on Saturday, July 11th from 9:00am-12:00pm. Once again, we will be piling into kayaks and canoes to scour the muck for treasures large and small. Plywood platforms will be installed on our bimaran canoes (two canoes lashed together with 2x6 boards) in order to transport our hefty loads of litter back to the dock. Here is just a partial list of last year’s takings: 13 car tires, an eighty pound bag of cement, enough plywood and boards to build a staircase to the moon, a car bumper, two TV’s, a keyboard, several feet of fluorescent lights, a gas canister, a mobile toilet, and, yes of course, a kitchen sink. Come join us for this merry occasion – the beavers, turtles and herons will deeply thank you!
This volunteer event is open to the public. Bring your friends, family and neighbors to this fun and unique clean-up party! Gloves, trash bags, and supplies will be provided by SOLV. Refreshments will be available for all volunteers. Prizes will be awarded for the best piece(s) of Slough trash.
We’ll meet at the Whitaker Ponds Nature Area Canoe Launch located at 7040 NE 47th Ave , Portland , OR 97218 .
