International Rivers is seeking a dynamic and creative part-time Web Producer to maintain and improve our site. She/he will maximize available technologies to ensure that internationalrivers.org offers timely and engaging content, and is intuitive to navigate and compelling for visitors. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to communicate effectively through websites, outstanding attention to detail, and enthusiasm for International Rivers' mission. The Web Producer will ensure that internationalrivers.org attracts new members to the organization, promotes public engagement with our campaigns, and provides a first-class information resource for our partners, the media, and the general public. While this is not strictly a web design or development position, design talent and technical competence are definite assets.
Responsibilities:
- Working with campaign, communications and development staff to ensure that the website offers an accurate and appealing presentation of our work
- Making International Rivers' website more dynamic and engaging through the effective use of blogs, images, video, action alerts, etc
- Applying, improving and maintaining the site’s design aesthetic and visual appeal; assisting staff in improving the layout of key, high profile pages
- Creating and updating content; developing new sections of the website, and improving site structure and information architecture
- Performing website maintenance tasks (repairing broken links, making editorial corrections, ensuring that the site is routinely and reliably backed up)
- Improving the user experience; adding new features and functionality
- Developing, documenting and updating style guides, user guides and procedures for adding web content using Drupal; training and managing staff on those best practices
- Participating in the development and execution of web marketing strategies to expand our online outreach, social networking presence, activism and fundraising efforts
- Analyzing and presenting web statistics and analytics
- Participating in ongoing planning, budgeting and evaluation processes
Requirements:
- Previous administrative experience with an online content management system (Drupal preferred)
- Experience managing a diverse group of web content contributors, and the ability to enforce style guidelines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Image manipulation skills (e.g., Photoshop, Fireworks)
- Ability to organize, prioritize and carry out competing priorities on tight deadlines
- Command of online development tools (e.g., FTP, authoring tools)
- Ability to handle browser incompatibility issues and various standard web plug-ins (e.g., Flash, Acrobat)
- Familiarity with web community-building and social networking tools
- Bachelor's degree in communications, information technology, design or related field, or equivalent experience
- Authorized to work in the US
- Personal commitment to environmental and social justice and a sense of humor
Preferred skills and knowledge:
- Design ability and experience with Illustrator/InDesign/Flash
- Drupal/PHP/MySQL/JavaScript
- Web development and production experience, including CSS and HTML
- Experience with video and audio compression and manipulation
- Strong editing skills
- Familiarity with Google Earth
- Ability to work with multiple languages and people from diverse cultural contexts
- Non-profit experience
The Web Producer is part of the International Rivers Web Team, and reports to the Technology Director. She/he also works with our Communications Team to ensure that internationalrivers.org serves the overall communications priorities of the organization. This 60% position is based in Berkeley, California. The salary range is $25,800-28,000 ($43,000-$48,000 FTE) per year, DOE, plus excellent benefits. International Rivers is an EOO.
