Rivers & Habitat

Anything else you're interested in is not going to happen if you can't breathe the air and drink the water. Don't sit this one out. Do something. ~Carl Sagan

Clean water and healthy riparian habitat are fundamental to all we love about rivers. Whether you enjoy watching your kids swim, fishing for trout, or knowing your drinking water is safe, you need clean water. Through the Rivers and Habitat Program, we help people:

  • Learn about practices, strategies, and laws for protecting water quality and habitat;
  • Decide how best to adapt them to their situation; and
  • Use these tools to protect and restore local streams and lakes.

We also demystify laws like the Clean Water Act so that citizens can be effective voices for clean, healthy lakes, streams and wetlands.
