The Waterkeeper Alliance has launched a new campaign against coal power: The Dirty Lie. The campaign aims to accelerate the phasing out of coal from United States energy policy by exposing the massive problems associated with the use of coal as a primary source of energy - from it's extraction, to it's combustion, to the storage of its ash waste.

As a part of the campaign, the Waterkeeper Alliance has developed a thorough Anti-Coal Campaign document which describes the numerous environmental and health risks associated with the entire life cycle of coal, tells the sotries of various Waterkeepers around the nation in their experiences and struggles with coal, and outlines the campaigns' steps towards 'Awareness to Advocacy' and their legal and policy goals. In addition, the Alliance has put together a shorter three-page Partnership Toolkit document outlining the mission of the Waterkeeper Alliance, the Dirty Lie Campaign, and inviting widespread public action through partnering with the Waterkeeper in their campaign against coal.

To tie the campaign all together and to achieve viral circulation, the Waterkeeper Alliance has launched a website www.Thedirtylie.com. The webpage features a carrousel/slot-machine sidebar debunking a large array of different coal industry related 'dirty lies,' and a very well put together video clip that takes a trip down coal-ash polluted sludgy river and interviews numerous river and watershed advocates about the dangers of coal.
