Xeriscape landscapes, defined here as “quality landscaping that conserves water and protects the environment,” are broken down into seven associated principles: planning and design, soil improvement, appropriate plant selection, practical turf areas, efficient irrigation, uses of mulches, and appropriate maintenance.
This article focuses specifically on xeriscape landscaping in Texas, but the general principal of an integrated approach to designing for water conservation are applicable everywhere.
