This Guide is an edited compendium of the quarterly River Network Fundraising Alerts, (with new material added in many cases) and is the work of many individuals who have freely contributed their ideas and energy to helping river and watershed organizations learn about fundraising. I would particularly like to thank Kim Klein, Andy Robinson, Amy O'Connor, Ken Kerber and Ellis Robinson, who over the years have provided comments and suggestions and allowed me to borrow extensively from articles and publications they have written.
I would also like to thank the energetic and resourceful River Network staff and interns who have researched web sites, training programs, and new sources of funding and contributed content over the past years: Sally Adkins, Blake Andrews, Alison Cook, Anne Gilliam, Eben Hobbins, Andrea Myhre, Peter Raabe, Nicole Waldheim, David Wilkins, Thad Woody.
Other individuals who have contributed extensively to particular chapters of this book are: Fundraising Planning: Liz Raisbeck; Board Fundraising: David Borden; Corporate/Business Fundraising: Don Elder; Earned Income: Andy Robinson, Richard Steckel, Bob Zimmerman; Foundation Grants: Kevin Coyle, Susan Hollander, Bess Metcalf, Andy Robinson, Jeff Leighton, Jon Jensen; Government Grants: Ralph Goodno, Thomas Denbow, Judith Petersen; In-Kind Gifts: Paul Rosa, George Constantz, Victoria Jeans-Gail, Kristen Conte; Major Donor Programs: Kevin Coyle, Suzi Wilkins; Monthly Giving Programs: Harvey McKinnon; Member Recruiting: Amy O'Connor; Online Fundraising: Sarah Clark, Al Staats, David Jenkins; Planned Giving/Bequests: John Jensen; Special Appeals: David Malakoff, Paul Rosa; Telephone Fundraising: Abby Markowitz, Carl Bolyard, Kim McArthur; Workplace Fundraising: Jim Abernathy.
In addition to the above, I would like to acknowledge and thank all the grassroots groups who have generously agreed to share their letters, invitations, forms, plans, proposals, checklists and other materials as samples for others to learn from.
This Guide was made possible through a generous grant from the Gund Foundation.
