In addition to our on-going work to use the broad power of the Clean Water Act to protect rivers, the Protection and Restoration program devotes special attention to select policy tools from the Clean Water Act and other related laws such as the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The idea behind our special project areas is to develop in-depth tools, analysis and training capacity to help take watershed and river leaders to an advanced level on issues that can have the biggest positive results for our rivers.

Our special projects are selected based on Partner needs, strategic analysis and the prospects for real progress on protecting or restoring water quality. Currently, River Network staff is focused on the following special projects:
