River Network has always provided the watershed community with intensive trainings on a variety of topics relevant to our grassroots partners. Our Saving Water, Saving Energy program intends to continue this valuable service by training watershed groups on how to address climate change and communicate the water-energy nexus in their communities.
In December 2008 River Network held a national training in Nashville, TN called Warming Watersheds: Training for Sustainable Water Supplies. As a result of this training, leaders in 35 communities across the country are prepared to engage in comprehensive energy and water planning. Another recent training was our half-day workshop at last year's River Rally; our next training will take place at this year's River Rally in Baltimore.
A number of these grassroots groups are growing interested in expanding or starting their own climate change programs. Using the materials and messages received at our trainings, our partners are boosting the health of our rivers and reducing carbon emissions by saving water and energy through water conservation, efficiency, reuse and low impact development.
