South Arkansas Peer Learning Field Trip - By Invitation Only

Join us for a field trip along the South Arkansas River on Thursday, August 5th from 11:00am – 5:00pm in the Salida, CO area!

We’ll gather to learn about the beginning phases of the Upper Arkansas Stream Management Plan, including stakeholder engagement, from Buffy Lenth, Watershed Restoration Specialist with the Central Colorado Conservancy, and Natalie Allio, Agricultural Projects Manager with the Central Colorado Conservancy. We’ll also be joined by Michael Blazewicz, Principal with Round River Design, to learn about fluvial hazard zone (FHZ) mapping along the South Arkansas. We’ll learn about the FHZ process, why SMPs might want to consider FHZ mapping, how these tools can be incorporated into SMP planning processes, and who needs to be involved. While onsite, we will review the stream health assessment that was completed on a one-mile stretch of the South Arkansas River and discuss local site-specific factors to consider when developing a stream health assessment.

This event is for member of the Colorado SMP Peer Learning Network.  If you are actively working on, or interested in starting, a Stream Management Plan in Colorado and did not receive an invitation, please reach out to Mikhaela at mmullins@rivernetwork.org.
