Leveraging Town and Gown Partnerships

Wednesday, August 21st 2:00-3:00 PM EDT

Host Organization: Smart Growth Online

Summary of Webinar: Partnerships between universities and local towns and governments have been very beneficial to community organizations and agencies while providing valuable experience for students and faculty.

Join the Smart Growth Network at 1 p.m. Eastern Aug. 14 for a webinar exploring a successful national model for building and operating university/community partnerships, how this approach is being implemented in Maryland, tips for how to develop town and gown partnerships in general, and lessons for partnerships of all kinds.

The session will examine the national model of EPIC-N, the Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities – Network, how it has been applied at the University of Maryland, as well as lessons learned in contracting, costs and financial support, communication, project definition, and project delivery.

Panelists include Joel Rogers of University of Wisconsin-Madison and a board member of EPIC-N, Gerrit Knaap of the National Center for Smart Growth, and Kim Fisher, program manager for the Partnership for Action Learning in Sustainability (PALS) at the University of Maryland.

In addition to planners, the session will be useful for university leaders interested in partnering with their local cities, counties, or specific agencies, faculty interested in adding community engagement to their courses, and community or agency staff interested in working with their local university or other higher education institutions.
