Networking & Learning

Facilitating communities of practice, learning networks, and coalitions for greater impact has been part of River Network’s DNA since our inception. Sometimes we are the convener or facilitator and in other times we may be a contributor.

River Network is currently a national partner of the Mississippi River Collaborative (MRC) and is supporting their collaborative policy evaluation of nutrient reduction strategies. River Network’s role in the MRC includes supporting and facilitating meetings and workgroups, providing substantive policy assistance, and helping to develop strategies for MRC priorities. We also had a leadership role in establishing and facilitating the Indigenous Waters Network.

Education and training are the foundation of River Network’s overall mission to strengthen and empower clean water organizations. Each year, we host a large conference , called River Rally, that brings together hundreds of river advocates and watershed groups, thought leaders and experts, scientists and funders, tribal representatives, volunteers and concerned citizens to share knowledge, get inspired, and celebrate success. This high energy event moves to a different part of the country every year and includes practical workshops, networking opportunities, field trips, and motivating plenaries. Water security and sustainability is now a standing theme to help organize content for this conference.

In addition to this annual conference, River Network offers webinars and regionally-based training opportunities in collaboration with experts and other organizations on topics related to clean water issues. When possible and appropriate, we also promote other educational opportunities related to water security and sustainability to our community.
