David Diaz

David Diaz joined River Network in 2026 as Network Mobilization Manager, where he works to strengthen and activate the network around equitable water policy, healthy rivers, and safe and affordable drinking water.

His background bridges aquatic ecology, communications, environmental education, and documentary storytelling. Prior to River Network, David worked with Water For People, supporting communications and storytelling around access to safe water across Latin America and Africa. He holds a master’s degree in aquatic ecology from the University of Georgia and has worked with environmental organizations and communities in the U.S. and internationally.

Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, David has long been drawn to rivers and their ability to connect people, communities, and landscapes. Outside of work, he enjoys filmmaking, playing music, exploring new places, and spending time outdoors.

Which River Network value most speaks to you?

Growth. I believe curiosity and a willingness to keep learning are essential to meaningful work. Water issues are complex and constantly evolving, and I value being part of an organization that reflects on what we learn, adapts, and continually looks for better ways to support communities and the people working to protect water.

What motivates you to go to work every day?

I think about our work like tributaries feeding a river. Each person’s contribution may seem small on its own, but together those efforts become something much more powerful. Knowing that my work contributes to a larger movement for healthy rivers and clean, accessible water motivates me every day.

What called you to work in water?

Seeing disparities in who has access to clean, safe water made me realize that water is about much more than the environment. Clean water creates opportunity—for healthier people, thriving communities, and healthy ecosystems. I wanted my work to help expand that opportunity.
