West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (Atlanta, Georgia). For over 25 years, WAWA has brought community science and watershed stewardship to low-wealth communities and communities of color in West Atlanta. Founded in the aftermath of a community advocacy campaign that stopped discriminatory wastewater treatment practices, WAWA now trains community members to monitor the health of local creeks. Their persistent advocacy was instrumental in securing the Proctor Creek Watershed’s designation as a U.S. EPA Urban Waters Federal Partnership site in 2013, unlocking new federal resources and partnerships.
